Dec 7: 5 hr inshore

Southern Voyage Fishing Charters Blog Post – December 7, 2024

Greetings, fellow fishing enthusiasts!

Today, we welcomed three gentlemen aboard, one of whom was relatively new to fishing, having only caught a couple of fish in his lifetime. It’s always rewarding to introduce newcomers to the thrill of fishing, and I was determined to make this trip a memorable one for them.

As we set out, the sun began to rise, casting a warm glow over the icy landscape. The anticipation of the day ahead kept our spirits high. Our plan was simple but effective: we would be using knocker rigs with shrimp bait, a reliable method for targeting various species inshore. With our gear set up and the bait ready, we headed out towards our first fishing spot.

The waters were calm, and as we anchored, I shared a little about the different species we might encounter. The first few casts into the water were filled with excitement and laughter, and before long, our lines were tight with action.

Our first catch of the day was a feisty sheepshead. Known for their distinctive black and white stripes, these fish put up a good fight, and it was a delight to see our novice angler reel in this beauty. It was a great start to the day, and I could see the excitement in his eyes as he held his first significant catch.

As we continued to fish, the bites kept coming. We also caught a few colorful puffer fish, which always bring a smile to our faces with their quirky appearance. While they may not be the target species, they are certainly an entertaining catch, and we admired their uniqueness before releasing them back into the water.

Then came the highlight of our trip: a surprise catch of tautog! These robust fish, also known as blackfish, are a favorite among anglers due to their challenging fight and delectable taste. Our newcomer was lucky enough to hook into one, and it was a fantastic moment as he wrestled with it before bringing it aboard. The look of triumph on his face was priceless, and it reminded me of why I love sharing these experiences with others.

As the trip went on, we continued to reel in more catches, and the excitement never waned. The camaraderie among the group deepened with each fish landed, and we shared stories and laughter, creating a bond that often happens on the water.

After five hours of fishing, we headed back to Dudley’s Marina, our cooler filled with a variety of fish and our hearts full of joy. The cold morning air had turned into a pleasant afternoon, and as we wrapped up the trip, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the opportunity to share this passion with our guests.

Fishing is more than just a sport; it’s about connection—connection to nature, to friends, and sometimes to new friends who share in the adventure. Today was a perfect reminder of that.

As we bid farewell to our guests, I could see the spark of excitement in their eyes, especially our novice angler, who left with more than just fish; he left with memories that would last a lifetime.

Thank you for joining us on this journey today. If you’re looking to experience the thrill of fishing, whether you're a seasoned angler or a beginner, we invite you to book a trip with Southern Voyage Fishing Charters.
